Have you ever heard of The World 7 Wonders ?

Can you name them ?…No ?

This famous list will surely remain forever the same in the memories.
But, what is the point with Maldives ?  Well, if you want to know more, read carefully the following:

The New7Wonders Foundation was established in 2001 by the Swiss-born Canadian filmmaker, author and adventurer travel lover Bernard Weber to contribute to the protection of the worlds human-built and natural heritage and to foster respect for our planet’s diversity and beauty.

The finalist list is essentially based on votes from World citizens like you and me.

This project offers 2 possibilities of listing :

The Official New 7 Wonders of the World.

and  

The Official New 7 Wonders of Nature.

The Maldives are officially in the 28 finalists and remain ranked as 4th for the past weeks !

The Reserve List contains nominees from the second phase of the Official New7Wonders of Nature that qualified as one of the top 77 nominees from over 440 nominees participating.

Here on Dreaming of Maldives Blog, we obviously wish that Maldives would finish in the top 3.

There is no other country in the World like The Maldives.
Located astride the equator, south of India and west of Sri Lanka, the all country unique specificity resides in the Geography made of an exclusive formation of natural atolls, sandy islands and reefs stretching along 823 km (511 miles) but occupying only an area of just 300 sq km (116 sq miles).
With an average ground of 1.5 meter above the sea level, the country is today endangered by the global sea level rising.
All land above the surface in the Maldives is of coralline origin.
The beauty of their lagoons and sandy beaches along with  their splendid aerial views make the Maldives an Absolute Paradise.
The origin of the word “atoll ” itself derives from the Dhivehi language of the Maldives “Atholhu” and is now used in many languages worldwide.
